The Happy Frog supports local PCYC Fit For Life program

The Happy Frog recently donated money to establish Healthy Living Gardens at the Coffs Harbour PCYC as part of their Fit For Life program.

The Happy Frog has been involved in the program by donating a basket of fruit every week and were so proud to be able to donate money to establish permanent gardens. Fit For Life is an early intervention program designed to engage youth ages 10 to 17 who are at risk of poor choices and anti-social behaviour. Through physical fitness, nutrition and social engagement, Fit For Life aims to improve overall wellbeing as well as prevent and divert youth from offending behaviours.

As part of the program the donated money was used to plant five vegetable garden beds at the Coffs Harbour PCYC in Bray Street. The gardens will be nurtured by the young people in the program and create an opportunity for the program participants to learn about healthy eating and nutrition as well as teaching them important life skills. Not to mention experiencing the satisfaction that comes with growing your own food and the enjoyment of eating it.

Youth Engagement Officers Senior Constable Snow and Senior Constable Heinz from Youth Command, along with Aclo Wilson from the Coffs Clarence Police District, external agency volunteers and PCYC staff all help run the Fit For Life program with young people every Wednesday morning during the school term.

The donated money has been raised by The Happy Frog’s customers as part of the Frog 500 fundraiser. Frog 500 is a grassroots fund where 100% of the profit from the sale of The Happy Frog ‘Spread Happiness’ shirts, bags and stickers goes towards raising funds for local initiatives like Fit For Life.

The Frog 500 has also kickstarted local projects like the the Anglicare World Garden and CommuniTEA Syrian tea stall at Harbourside Markets.

“We are very grateful to everyone who purchases our ‘Spread Happiness’ products. It is wonderful to be able to pass this on to the community in such a productive way” Kim Towner, The Happy Frog owner
