A social and community-focused group created for women from refugee and migrant backgrounds to practice and develop their English-speaking skills. The group is a project of The Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre and is proudly supported by BCU Bank. The group meets at the Centre in the Community Village, 22 Earl St (behind Coles) Fridays from 1pm -2.30pm during school terms.
The activities each week are planned by Facilitators to provide connection and awareness of the resources and activities available within our Coffs community.
Group Facilitators Madeline and Sharen are calling for:
– Guest speakers/presenters who would be happy to share their interests, talents, and/or skills with the group eg yoga, art and music, are regularly included. Cooking and food preparation has also been a popular activity. Due to the beginner level English, hands-on activities or ones where a lot of visuals (photos, video clips) works best.
– Visitors from relevant services/community roles to explain their service or role and/or provide information
– Volunteer Drivers who can transport women, sometimes with their children to and from meetings
– Volunteers to connect and support women and to assist with activities and presentations during the meetings.
If you are interested in volunteering with, or presenting to this group and would like more information, please
contact Group Facilitator, Madeline on 0427 497 478 or call Marie at Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre on 6648 3694.
