BECC Youth Crew (Boambee East Community Centre)

The Youth Crew formed in July 2021 at BECC as part of the project Country to Coast Creativity funded by DCJ Youth Opportunities funding. The project aims to enable young people aged 12-25 that have an interest in community art/music/performance to lead and participate in community development activities to break-down barriers and increase young people’s access to and inclusion in the community. Our young people are an important part of the community, and by developing respectful relationships we continually seek ways to listen to their ideas and opinions. We encourage young people to be excited about things that will add value to their lives and community and use that energy to create change.

With Mentors the Crew have been supported to develop a series of art, cultural and music workshops in communities across the Coffs LGA with a focus on rural isolated communities.

The Crew meet regularly to network, design, deliver and evaluate the project and have received training in event management, workshop facilitation and committee membership.

It is an opportunity for them to meet new people, make new friends, share creative skills and facilitate a series of workshops with their peers supported by the community centre and volunteers.

They will also participate in the organisation and facilitation of the BECC Winter Solstice which is an annual community event.
